Metso introduces largest split geared ring model

Metso recently introduced the SCDH4500, its largest split geared ring model to date.

The new release represents an important improvement in transforming thickener maintenance and reinforces Metso’s commitment to delivering solutions that improve reliability, enhance safety, and support sustainable operations in mining, the company said. As a result, customers benefit from shorter shutdowns, safer working environments, and decreased service expenses overall.

The SCDH4500 is designed to address the practical challenges associated with traditional full slew bearing replacements. Its two-piece split design enables up to 50% faster installation and reduces the need for extensive system disassembly. This approach helps minimize downtime and improve safety by eliminating the use of large cranes and suspended loads, providing substantial savings in labor, equipment hire and lost production.

The launch of the SCDH4500 also supports Metso’s broader strategy to expand its thickener offering and strengthen its aftermarket capabilities. By providing scalable and efficient solutions, Metso continues to help customers optimize performance across the full lifecycle of their equipment. The new model integrates seamlessly with existing SCD drive geometries, offering compatibility and reliability in demanding applications.

“The innovative two-piece split design allows faster installation without requiring extensive system disassembly. This not only minimizes operational disruptions but also enhances safety by eliminating the need for large cranes and suspended loads. Additionally, the SCDH4500 seamlessly integrates with existing SCD drive geometries, ensuring reliability in high-torque applications,” said Andrew McIntosh, product director, Thickening Services.
